Several commonly used synthetic oil and its main characteristics

1, the organic esters

They are produced by reaction of an alcohol organic acid. It is relatively higher temperature capability of mineral oil, and therefore the largest amount of a class of synthetic oils, almost all aviation engines are lubricated with ester oil.

2, the synthetic hydrocarbon

They are made by the polymerization of low molecular weight olefin wax obtained by pyrolysis. Higher levels of crude paraffin wax cracking process is not complicated, so the prospects for the preparation of poly-α- olefins broad. Because synthetic hydrocarbon with good high temperature performance, thermal stability than the double Kuhao, and have some anti-flammable, mainly for aviation lubricants, or made fire resistant hydraulic oil.

3, phosphate esters

They are formed by the reaction of an alcohol and phosphoric acid. They have flame resistance, mainly used as flame-resistant lubricating fluid. Their good lubricity, because of its thermal stability is not good enough, so the use of temperature should not exceed 150 ℃. Its disadvantage is that there is swelling of rubber sealing material, but also has some toxicity.

4, silicone oils

It is also called a silicone, more types thereof include methyl silicone oil, methylphenyl silicone oil, chlorophenyl silicone oil, methyl and ethyl silicone oils. Its high temperature performance is good.

Silicone oil has other advantages: good chemical inertness, water resistant, non-toxic, good electrical insulation, you can get a wide range of viscosity, surface tension silicone is extremely small, only 2/3 of mineral oil, to the metal surface rapidly creeping flow easily through the seal and leakage, it is appropriate to make plastics processing release agent; silicone oil, mineral oil can be used as an anti-foaming agent.

The main disadvantage is the poor lubricity of the silicone oil.

Its main advantage is that when heated to above 200 ℃ decomposition, the grease is not generated and precipitation.

They can be used for very high operating temperature (such as 400 ℃ or more) of friction, at which time all of the liquid lubricant were decomposed, and polyethylene glycol will be left soot and ash. Its molecular structure can be changed as needed, it becomes water-soluble or oil-soluble, semi-hydrophilic or semi-lipophilic, and therefore for industrial fire-resistant hydraulic fluid.

6, a chlorinated or fluorinated compound

They include chlorinated biphenyls, fluorocarbon oil, silicone chlorine, fluorine oil, perfluorinated ether. They are chemically inert good, especially perfluorinated ether, nor in pure oxygen combustion, thermal stability is good, but the narrow scope of its viscosity, lubricity is not good enough, expensive, and therefore the application is limited.
