Application of organic silicone in new energy vehicles

Organic silica gel has the advantages of high and low temperature resistance, electrical insulation, corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, physiological inertness, etc. Organic silica gel companies develop products of various forms according to these characteristics, different types of power battery market and customer needs. The most common product types on the market are: thermal conductive potting glue/sealing agent, foamed silica gel, thermal conductive gasket, thermal conductive silicone grease and thermal conductive mud, etc.

In new energy vehicle accidents, lithium battery fire or explosion is the main cause. There are two ways to reduce or even eliminate such accidents. One is to change the lithium battery itself, and the other is to use organic silicone as a potting material to play a fire retardant role.

The role of organic silica gel in new energy vehicle batteries mainly includes the following three points:

1. Conduct heat and dissipate heat to balance the temperature. The normal operating temperature of lithium batteries is between -20℃ and 60℃. Too high or too low a temperature can easily cause problems. After using silicone, depending on the PACK process, silicone is poured and arranged in the gaps around the battery pack to add a layer of barrier to the battery pack. Even in an overheated or overcooled environment, the battery pack can still work stably.

2. Flame retardant and explosion-proof. When a single cell in a battery pack fails and explodes, the silicone potting glue can isolate oxygen and protect other cells in the battery pack from being affected, preventing the entire battery pack from exploding and burning. Currently, two domestic companies, Huatianqi Technology (cs-9813) and Huitian, have this product.

3. Insulation and waterproof. The physiological inertness of organic silica gel ensures its compatibility with other materials during the PACK process. Its insulating properties can protect key electronic components, cells and busbars inside the battery, thereby avoiding battery short circuits, surges and the risk of battery fires. In addition, organic silica gel is hydrophobic. Using this property, companies have also developed waterproof products. In response to harsh environments such as typhoons and heavy rains, organic silica gel can put on a "waterproof suit" for the battery.
