China’s Silicone Industry Maintains Global Leadership as Market Demand and Technological Advancement Drive High-Quality Growth

According to multiple industry research reports, China continues to dominate the global silicone market. By the end of 2024, China’s silicone production capacity reached 3.44 million tons, accounting for 76% of global capacity, making it the world’s largest producer. In 2024, China produced 2.253 million tons of silicone, with output projected to rise to 2.48 million tons in 2025.

Research institutions note that China’s silicone market has maintained strong growth over the past decade. In 2024, apparent consumption of silicone intermediates reached 1.82 million tons, up 21% year-on-year. While China holds the world’s largest monomer production capacity, certain end-use sectors still face performance gaps in high-end products, which remain dependent on imports.

Industry analyses indicate that Chinese silicone companies are moving toward high-end technologies, expansion into emerging application areas, and vertical integration to strengthen supply chain resilience. At the same time, environmentally friendly equipment, digital transformation, and circular economy practices are becoming new trends shaping the industry. Demand from emerging sectors such as new energy vehicles, photovoltaics, and electronics is expected to continue rapid growth, gradually improving the industry’s supply-demand balance.

Following several years of rapid capacity expansion, the industry has entered a more stable phase. In 2023–2024, large-scale capacity additions led to overall losses in China’s silicone industry, while only limited new capacity is planned for 2025. With continued growth in demand and optimization of the industry structure, China’s silicone industry is expected to enter a more stable and robust stage of development.
