Hangzhou Normal University & University of Sydney co-develop new silicone-based fire alarm sensors

A research team from Hangzhou Normal University and the University of Sydney recently published a breakthrough in ACS Nano. They developed a multilayer silicone/graphene oxide coating with advanced fire-warning capabilities. This new material is highly water-repellent, thermally stable, and responds rapidly to flames. It combines early fire detection with eco-friendly, non-toxic flame-retardant properties. Unlike traditional smoke detectors that rely on smoke or heat, this sensor reacts faster and is more versatile, showing strong potential in construction, transportation, military, and more.
