Three New Substances Added to the EU SVHC Candidate List

In June 2025, the European Union added three new substances to the Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC), bringing the total number of regulated substances to 250. Among them, decamethylcyclotetrasiloxane and methyltris(trimethylsiloxy)silane were identified as SVHCs during the June meeting of the ECHA Member State Committee (MSC), while Acid Brown 51 was added to the candidate list without MSC consultation.

According to the EU REACH regulation, if an article contains an SVHC in a concentration above 0.1%, information must be communicated within the supply chain. Additionally, if the SVHC content exceeds 0.1% and the annual export volume is more than 1 tonne, a notification to ECHA is required.

This update to the SVHC Candidate List will increase the complexity of supply chain management for affected companies, raise testing costs, and intensify the pressure to modify products. Companies will need to re-screen raw materials and components to determine whether they contain the newly listed SVHCs, and may need to adjust formulations, substitute materials, or improve production processes to ensure product compliance.
